valley wind
The wind that tends to blow across the valley when a mountain is broken by the valley. The wind blows at a speed appreciably higher than the neighboring area on either side of the valley. They are given different names according to the region in which they blow. Santa Ana, Chinook, Diablo, Föhn, and katabatic winds are some examples of valley winds. See Föhn and katabatic wind.
